It's a private space, so you can easily learn how to make matcha and how to drink it and try brewing it by yourself. It is very enjoyable time to drink matcha made only with your family and friends. If you mind sitting on the floor, chair seating is also available. Please experience it and feel Japanese culture. (Required time: about 30-40 minutes)

Since its establishment in 1912, Sumiya Ryokan has grown over the years to become a ryokan that has been visited by many celebrities and VIPs, including kabuki actors, as a ryokan that carries on the tradition of chakaiseki (tea ceremony). We hope that our guests will experience the hospitality of the “spirit of chanoyu” still passed down at Sumiya Ryokan through the “tea ceremony” and feel the “traditions and culture inherited in Kyoto” through Sumiya Ryokan.
