Let's take a look at the Gion Festival event “Abare Kannon,” which is held only at Minami Kannon Yama

Atomatsuri is held on the night of Yoiyama, you can see Minami Kannon's “Abare Kannon,” which is crowded with many visitors every year even though it's late at night, from Kyomachiya near Minamisan Kannon. The Shinto ritual where the object of worship, Yoryu Kannon, is tied with a cloth and runs through the town with the shouts of Wasshoi is also said to be the last event at the Gion Festival and Yoiyama. Cold drinks (all-you-can-drink, including alcohol) are available during the viewing.

“Abare Kannon”
At the Gion Festival Hiyori Kagura (Hiyori Kagura), which is held every year on 7/23, Yamaboko Town, which has Hayashi, such as Kita Kannon Yama and Minami Kannon Yama, plays Gion Hayashi while going to Yasaka Shrine Otabisho near Shijo Kawaramachi, and prays for clear weather and the safety of the Gion Matsuri Yamaboko Parade (after festival).
At Abare Kannon, which is performed right after Hiyori Kagura is over, the object of worship, Yoryu Kannon (Yoryu Kannon) statue is tied to a pedestal (mikoshi) with a cloth, and they run around the town for 3 laps while shaking violently.

■Customers under 20 can drink soft drinks as much as they want.
■The event may be cancelled in case of stormy weather,but will take place rain or shine.
■Please note that Shinto rituals may not be held due to sudden local circumstances.

■Reception is at the Mukadeya main store, but depending on the number of participants, you will be asked to move to another Kyomachiya for viewing. We will inform you on the day.
