Wakyo Rousoku (Japanese Kyoto candles), a traditional craft of Kyoto, have long been used in Buddhist rituals as offerings. Made entirely from plant-based ingredients, these candles are eco-friendly and burn cleanly with minimal soot or dripping wax, making them ideal for use near altars or in your home without causing stains or smoke damage.

At Nakamura Rousoku, a workshop that has been crafting these candles since 1887, you can participate in a hands-on candle painting workshop. As part of this unique experience, you'll get the chance to decorate authentic Japanese candles made by skilled artisans using traditional techniques.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced, professional craftsmen will guide you step-by-step in the painting process, so you can enjoy the experience with confidence. Add your own artwork or message to create a one-of-a-kind candle – a meaningful souvenir or personal keepsake.

• Available Dates: Weekdays until October 31, 2025
  Exclusion Dates: September 10 (Wed), September 30 (Tue), October 2 (Thu), October 23 (Thu), October 24 (Fri), weekends and public holidays

• Start Times: 10:00 / 11:00 / 13:00 / 14:00

• Meeting Point: Nakamura Rousoku (京蝋燭なかむら)

• Meeting Time: Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled start time

• Price: ¥2,750 per person (Adults and children aged 3 and above)

• Reservation Deadline: By 23:59, 3 days before your desired date

• Cancellation Policy:

  • No fee until 2 days before

  • 50% cancellation fee on the day before

  • 100% fee on the day of the experience or for no-shows
