✨Join the Gion Festival with JTB – Get More Than Just a View!
Ever wanted to be part of Kyoto’s famous Gion Matsuri? Here’s your chance! With this special experience, you can actually pull the Minami Kannon-yama float in the grand Yamahoko procession, often called a “moving art museum.”
Together with the preservation society and local participants, you’ll pull Minami Kannon-yama through the streets of Kyoto, while the lively sounds of Gion festival music fill the summer sky.
A highlight you can’t miss: the “Tsuji-mawashi”, a skillful turn at the intersections—a truly one-of-a-kind experience!
Note: To preserve this traditional festival, participation is limited to men aged 18–50. Women and children cannot join.
What You’ll Experience
Pull the Minami Kannon-yama float yourself
Take part in the exciting “Tsuji-mawashi” maneuver during the procession
About Minami Kannon-yama
Also called “Lower Kannon-yama,” its main deity is the Willow Kannon, protector against illness. The side deity, Zenzai Dōji, is also enshrined. The float’s lavish decorations and willow branches are iconic symbols of the festival.
